With Microsoft Small Business Server, you can publish information and applications on the Internet or on your companys private network, called an intranet. Small Business Server makes it easy to sign up with an Internet Service Provider and to author and maintain a Web site. If you have existing Web applications, they are fully compatible with Small Business Server.
You can build a Web site that advertises your product or service world wide, provides information about your company to potential investors, or gives employees access to the latest training materials the possibilities are wide open. You can use Small Business Server to publish information on your intranet, the Internet, or both.
Small Business Server signs you up with the Internet Service Provider of your choice. It automatically retrieves the most recent list of providers for your area and automatically connects with a provider.
When you sign up, your company automatically establishes e-mail and domain name links so you can send and receive e-mail by way of the Internet.
During setup, Small Business Server creates a location on your local disk drive for an intranet site and another location, called the staging Internet Web site, for you to author and test Internet Web pages before posting them to your Internet site, which may be hosted at your Internet Service Provider.
When you sign up with an Internet Service Provider, Small Business Server records the location of your Internet Web site. It then provides the tools you use to post and update your pages on the Internet site.
